Players of the 90's

GARETH EVANS - APPS 52 (4) GLS 18
Arrived at Firhill with David Farrell as part of the deal that took Ian Cameron to Hibs. A steady if not prolific scorer with Hibs he was soon among the goals for Thistle comfortably Thistle's top scorer with 13 goals. Sadly his second season with Thistle was badly marred by injury, He was missing for several months and by the time he returned Thistle were staring relegation in the face. Evans played his part with 5 goals but it wasn't enough to save Thistle. He joined Airdrie following the inevitable Firhill clear out that followed relegation.

Farningham

RAY FARNINGHAM - APPS 76 (2) GLS 16
Signed from Dunfermline early in season 1991/92 and played a big part in Thistle's promotion to the Premier League that season with his goals from midfield. Performed a similar task the following season, it was his goal that started a 3-0 rout of Rangers. Started the next campaign but left for Dundee with the season still in its infancy following a red card in his last game for Thistle, a disappointing end to an excellent Thistle career.

DAVID FARRELL - APPS 49 (1) GLS 3
Joined Thistle from Hibs at the same time as Gareth Evans in a deal that saw Ian Cameron join the Easter Road side. Had an uncertain start to his Thistle career but gradually won the Thistle fans over with some fine displays in the centre of the Thistle defence. Was still at Firhill at the start of the following season but John McVeigh moved him on to Airdrie as he tried to reorganise the club.

DEREK FERGUSON - APPS 7 GLS 0
One of the most talented players to have played with Thistle in recent seasons, Derek made his Thistle debut as a trialist, before signing a short term deal with the club, in the 3-1 defeat by Stirling Albion in October 1999, the only game Thistle lost while Ferguson was at Firhill. Derek decided to accept an offer to play in Australia and left Thistle in November but returned to Scotland soon offer and signed for Ross County. Made his County debut against Thistle but it was an unhappy one as County lost and Ferguson was sent off.

JOHN FLOOD - APPS 27 (2) GLS 5
One of the most popular Thistle players to have played with the club. Was brought to Firhill by Billy Lamont in 1988 and was one of the few players to remain at the club after John Lambie assumed control. He had just turned full time when he suffered a serious leg break in a match against Morton. After over a year spent on the sidelines John returned to the side and was well on the way to a full recovery when he sustained another leg break in a cup-tie at Hibs this time ending his career. Had a Thistle fanzine, The Johnny Flood Experience, named after him.

WAYNE FOSTER - APPS 42 (1) GLS 9
Will always be well thought of by the Thistle fans if only for his two goals that helped Thistle to a famous 3-1 win over Celtic at Hampden Park. Arrived at Firhill half way through the 1995/96 season from Hearts with Thistle struggling at the foot of the league. His goals, plus another arrival from Tynecastle, keeper Nicky Walker, went along way in helping Thistle to stage a comeback eventually avoiding the drop at the expense of Dundee United. Was unable to recapture his goalscoring form the next season although he did score a spectacular goal against Falkirk. He later joined the Brockville outfit after a Firhill free transfer.

ANDY FRAME - APPS 5 (4) GLS 0
Frame Joined Thistle in the 98/99 season after a free transfer from Hibs. A number of impressive displays for the reserves earned him a call up into the first team where he performed sufficiently well to earn himself a contract for another year but he failed to make much of an impact and was freed at the end of the season.

PAUL FRIAR - APPS 1 GLS 0
Signed from English non-league side Fisher Athletic, Friar was signed for defensive cover and made a solitary appearance at right back in season 91/92 against Morton at Firhill, Thistle losing 5-3. Left Thistle to join East Stirling.

BRIAN GALLAGHER - APPS 17 (4) GLS 1
Became John Lambie's first ever signing for Thistle when he and team mate Billy Abercrombie joined from St Mirren. Was expected to provide Thistle with some much needed fire power but illness severely affected his time at Firhill despite remaining at the club long after Abercrombie had departed. Can quite often be seen watching the current Thistle side from the Jackie Husband Stand.

Gaughan

KEVIN GAUGHAN - APPS 39 (5) GLS 2
Young central defender who signed from lpswich Town by John McVeigh in August 1997. Marked his Thistle debut with a late equalising goal against Airdrie and showed plenty of promise despite the struggles of the team. Missed the latter half of that season with injury and never recaptured his early Thistle form when he returned to the Thistle side last season. Was handed a free transfer at the end of season 98/99 and spent a couple of years under his old boss McVeigh at Raith Rovers before joining Stranraer.

ANDY GIBSON - APPS 24 (26) GLS 2
Not the young winger of more recent times, but a striker and not one of the most successful of John Lambie's forays into the transfer market. He was still a useful player whose hard work was never translated into goals scored. Had a long wait before scoring his first goal for Thistle, ironically a winner against Aberdeen the club from whom he was signed. After leaving Thistle he returned north to Peterhead.

ALLY GRAHAM - APPS 4 (2) GLS 0
Just one of a whole host of short term signings made by John McVeigh prior to the start of the 1997/98 season. Made a mere handful of appearances for Thistle without, to use cricket parlance, troubling the scorers.
